Dry and mild weather into the weekend, rain and snow likely Sunday

The area will be drying out and warming up as we head into the last weekend of October.  This month has been quite a ride, with temperature swings of 10 to even 20 degrees from one day to the next at times.  79° to 59° on the 14th to the 16th is just one example of the swings we have been dealing with this month. October is a month when we transition from warm to cool and the major swings are not all that rare.

As for the rest of the week, I expect temperatures in the middle to upper 60s Friday and Saturday under mostly sunny skies.  The switch to a wintry pattern with mountain snow and cold high desert rain will begin on Sunday.  The last week of October will be defined by a much wintrier scenario as the highs will be in the upper 40s and low 50s with off and on rainy and snowy scenarios. There will be cold rain mingled with some snow at lower elevations, as the overnight low will be near freezing.

The meteorological switch to winter is not easily obtained, there needs to be a significant period of transition. It does appear that the transition to winter will begin in earnest next week.

The mountains are likely to see nearly a foot of new snow by the time Halloween rolls around.  There is still a chance for us to see a warm spike in November, that usually occurs, but we are more than likely starting our turn to the cooler weather patterns and saying good-bye to the warmth of summer.
