Colder pattern to close out the month of October, mountain snow and high desert mix
This week will be defined by the transition from a milder than usual pattern to a colder than usual pattern. The temperature readings this week in Bend will be about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than usual, but since we were about 20 degrees warmer than normal recently, it is a much rather dramatic swing. There is snow piling up on the highest peaks of the Cascades and will continue to do so all week.
The region will have a brief dry period Tuesday before much wetter and chilly air arrives. There is an area of low pressure off the coast of British Columbia that will drop south along the coast and provide us with cooler than normal air, mountain snow, and high desert rain/mix. The mix over the high desert will be at night, when temperature readings are cold enough to support snow, then a transition to rain is likely.
Wednesday will be a rainy day in the high desert as we are mild enough to only support rain. Rain will be off and on, but the overnight time frame into Halloween will be close enough to provide some rain mingled with snow. Then as we move forward through the morning Thursday we transition back to a cold rain.
Friday we can expect some lingering light cold rain to start of the month of November. Guns and Roses sing about a “Cold November Rain” and we will see that here on Friday. It does look like that will be the last of the rainy period for a few days, allowing us to salvage the weekend with a dry scenario.
This coming weekend will be nice to take a drive to Mt. Bachelor or any of our mountain resorts if you want to play in the snow, it will still be around.
