Mountain snow & a high desert mix this week
Rain and snow started along the mountains yesterday and will continue through the day today. Rain chances for Central Oregon today have dropped, but a stray shower isn't entirely out of the forecast. Rain is struggling to make it over the mountains this morning. Expect less than a tenth of an inch. Our mountains will see 1-4 inches of snow today, including at pass level.
Highs for the entire week will hover a few degrees above and a few below the 50 degree mark. We will be breezy this afternoon. Lows will be near and below freezing through the week with areas like Sisters, Sunriver, and La Pine all dropping into the low 20s and below.
A low pressure moved in yesterday and will swing through to the northeast through the day today. This is our main trigger for the rain, snow, and cooler temps.
Tomorrow will be a short transition day with cool but dry conditions. This pattern lingers into Wednesday morning but during the second half of the day Wednesday, a second low pressure will be dropping in and bringing another wave of rain and snow to our area. This system has a bit more of a kick to it and we’ll see much better chances for precipitation in Central Oregon.
In the Wednesday through Thursday time frame, we’ll see the mountains accumulate 6-12 inches of snow. The high desert will see a wintry mix during that time, possible snowfall in La Pine, Sunriver, Sisters, and Bend during the overnight hours and then switching to rain as temperatures rise during the day. Accumulation in the high desert will be little to none.
Rain will linger into Friday and we will be drying out again for our weekend. Temperatures will remain cool.
Happy Monday! Keep an eye for the pumpkin in my forecast for the remainder of the month.
