Rain and snow expected into the weekend

There is a cold front crossing the region today and is expected to bring high desert rain and high elevation snow.  A Winter Storm Warning is in place from today until 5 pm Friday afternoon for the Cascade Mountains in Lane and Klamath Counties where over a foot of snow is likely, possibly more.  A Winter Weather Advisory is in place until 5 pm Friday for Linn County and the western portions of Jefferson and Deschutes Counties where a wintry mix of rain and snow will make travel conditions slick and dangerous.

The amount of snow is not as important at the lower elevations as the difficult travel that will result from a mix of rain and snow and ice.  The temperatures will be above freezing most of the time so the precipitation will be mainly rain. The overnight time frames are expected to be below freezing for a few hours tonight and Thursday night so there may be some snow mingled in with the rain. Icy conditions are possible early in the day both Thursday and Friday so please allow extra time to get to your destinations.

Halloween will be rainy and cold so make sure the little ghouls and goblins are dressed for the rain and cold weather. Also, make sure to put some reflective tape so the kiddos can be seen in the darkness as the sun sets at around 6pm.

Friday will also be wet and cold with some early morning wintry mix precipitation of rain and snow. Probably not much of a mix this go round as the temps will be a few degrees above freezing along 97 north of Lava Butte, but south of Lava Butte it may be mixed.  Sisters will also see some snow early then rain after about mid-morning.

The rain is likely to extend into Saturday, so our forecast is changing up a bit to extend the wintry pattern into the first part of Saturday.  Sunday will be the first day with mostly dry weather in the forecast over the high desert with a stray snow shower possible in the mountains.

Election Day will be dry and breezy with highs in the low 50s.
