Heavy snow on the mountains, off and on mix over the high desert

We are in sort of a “no mans land” as far as the temperatures go with reference to the type of precipitation expected. The afternoon highs will be in the 40s and 50s across the region, and lows drop below freezing each night.  The precipitation type obviously is very temperature dependent, so the nights will see some snow while the afternoons provide a mix of rain and snow. The snowfall totals will be low since the rain will help melt and mash the flakes as they land, but the precipitation will continue to persist.

The end result will be a gray and dreary next three or four days as waves of light rain and snow mingle together at the surface.  The mountains are likely to get about 12 inches or more by the end of the week, and travel to the Willamette Valley will be dangerous at times.

This early season snow/rain event is not too uncommon, we have had snow as early as September, but our vehicles and homes may not be ready.  Do you need tires, do you need to get an appointment for your sprinkler system, do you need anything to winterize your home and car are questions we need to be asking ourselves.

The rain and snow are likely to continue through Sunday morning before taking a break for Monday and Tuesday.  A stray shower overnight is not off the table both Monday and Tuesday, but we should not be impacted by that scenario.

Don’t forget we gain an hour of sleep this weekend as we switch back to standard time Sunday at 1 am.

Election Day will be dry and breezy with highs in the low 50s.
