Dry and quiet pattern, snow possible late week

The weather pattern for the next couple of days will be chilly and dry as the region is under the influence of an area of high pressure. This will keep the area mostly sunny and crisp in the afternoon and clear and cold overnight.  The temperature to start the week will be about normal for mid-December, normal is low 40s for highs and low 20s for lows.   I don’t expect to see many temperature swings this week as we should stay in the low to middle 40s through the weekend.

The next chance for some precipitation comes on Thursday as a few snow showers arrive. The air mass will be dry so the snow will take some time before making it to the ground. Thursday morning looks like the best chance for a few snow showers with little to no accumulation. Slick roads and areas of ice may be possible. Temperature rise above freezing before noon and the showers end.

That will not be the case over the Cascades Wednesday into Thursday. 5 - 8" of snow is being estimated by our computer models at the moment for Thursday. That may change, and we will continue to update you on the status of the snow totals futuretrack.

Following the Thursday morning snow, the next round of snow may arrive on Saturday ahead of another front arrives from the coast. The temperatures will be mild enough to allow a mixture of rain and snow instead of all snow Saturday.  Mountains and the passes may see several inches of snow early, but the High Desert near the 97 highway may only see a few inches of snow an rain mingled together.

There is a hint that 97 may get a bit more robust snow, but not all computer models are in agreement at this time, so we wait for more information before diving off into that portion of the forecast.  Snow should be here Saturday, just how much has yet to be determined.

Please stay safe.
