Cold Weather Advisory this week with potentially record breaking cold

Today will be the coldest day of the week as the arctic air dips further south. Plan for highs in the low to mid 20s and lows dropping to the singles and negatives. Record cold is possible in Madras, Redmond, Sisters and Sunriver. Temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing until Friday.
A Cold Weather Advisory has been extended to cover Central Oregon. “Feel-like” temperatures could reach 10 below at times. This is active until Thursday morning. Stay warm, protect your skin, and avoid long exposure to the cold. If you’re cold, your pets are also likely cold–make sure they’re prepared and keep them indoors if possible. Keep your car in the garage and let it heat up for 5-10 minutes before driving it in the mornings. Lastly, protect your outdoor plumbing.
There is also a Special Weather Statement out for areas along US97 until 7am this morning. Light snow and patchy freezing fog have been observed and can create visibility issues and slick roads. Use caution this morning.
Snow will return Thursday and we’ll pick up a few inches. Snow will be off and on into next week. As temperatures rise through the weekend, rain will get mingled in with the snow and the pattern gets a bit wet. Plan for icy roads as the snow melts.
Happy Tuesday. Have a good day and stay warm this week!
