Warm for the holiday weekend, chance for isolated storms ahead

Temperatures are starting to heat back up today. We’ll see highs top out in the upper 60s and low 70s, which is near normal for this time of year.

Plan for warm, summer-feel conditions this weekend. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s and low 80s for the weekend, making for perfect barbecuing or river-floating weather. Temperatures cool back to near normal for Memorial Day Monday. If you are planning on being near water, be aware that it is still early in the season and the water is likely a little fast and chilly. Be safe.

Saturday will be your safest bet for all your outdoor activities. We’ll see sunny skies and a light breeze cooling you off every so often. Our next system starts to approach on Sunday.

There is a chance for isolated thunderstorms starting Sunday evening and those chances will continue into early Monday. Plan for scattered rain, gusty winds, and the potential for small hail near the storms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed Central Oregon under the “general risk” category for Sunday.

It looks like the biggest impact time frame for Central Oregon will be late Sunday. The majority of your day should be safe for any outdoor plans, but start paying attention probably around dinner time. The system pushes east Monday and will take the unstable, stormy weather with it, but we could see an isolated storm early in the day before it does.

Because of the chance for storms during the holiday weekend, we’ve issued a “level one” Local Alert Weather Day. I've moved it up to be on Sunday because if you have to make any changes to your plans due to the weather, it will likely be on Sunday evening. However, we could see a lingering storm early Monday so you’ll want to make sure you’re paying attention to the weather or tuning into the KTVZ News for the latest.
