Small heat wave bringing potentially record breaking heat across the high desert

Temperatures are heating into the low to mid 80s today and the ridge of high pressure that’s been sitting off the coast approaches for the weekend. This incoming system is bringing hot temperatures for a string of days. Look for highs to be in the low to mid 90s all weekend and into next week. Areas across Central Oregon will have chances to break records from Saturday through Monday.

This heatwave could have areas in the Northwest tipping into triple digits. The Tri-County won’t get that hot, but if you are traveling north, into the Columbian Basin for the weekend, you might see 100s on the thermometer.

We’ll be experiencing the hottest temperatures of the year over the next few days. Make sure you’re staying hydrated and taking breaks to cool off.

The hot pattern will progressively taper off next week as the ridge breaks down and exits.

Looking ahead to next week, we have a chance to see a few pop up dry thunderstorms early or mid week. At this time, there is little confidence in that forecast but stay tuned into KTVZ as we approach next week for updates to the forecast.

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend and stay safe.
