Warm start to Astronomical Summer, cooler weather arrives late week

KTVZ-TV

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - Good Monday morning!

Astronomical summer officially began Sunday with the Summer Solstice. After the longest day of the year, days gradually begin getting shorter. The change is small at first and continues until the Autumnal Equinox.

A warm pattern will continue through much of the work week as high pressure rebuilds across the region. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s across Central Oregon today.

Expect similar temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs possibly a few degrees warmer. We'll see a few more clouds move in tomorrow, but dry conditions are expected to continue.

Fire weather concerns will increase midweek as humidity levels drop and winds pick up. Fuels remain very dry, so any fire that starts could spread quickly.

Temperatures begin to cool slightly on Thursday, though highs will still reach the mid 80s. A new weather system will move into the Pacific Northwest and may bring some rain to the mountains by Thursday night.

A more noticeable cooldown arrives Friday, with highs falling back into the low 70s. A few showers are possible across the High Desert, but rain chances remain fairly low at this point.

Cooler weather will continue into the weekend, with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. A few showers may linger into Saturday, but the rest of the weekend looks quiet with partly to mostly sunny skies.
