Quiet and dry pattern to kick off Autumn, rainy on Friday

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The first full day of Autumn is near normal as far as temperatures are concerned.  The normal high temperatures for the 23^rd of September are in the middle to lower 70s and today we are on point.

Sky conditions are once again varied as there are high clouds filtering the sunshine. Overall, a sunny day with what I like to refer to as filtered sunshine.

Overnight the region will be on the mild side as temperature readings will be in the middle 40s, a few degrees above the normal upper 30s.

Thursday will be the day of transition as a trough of low pressure moves in from the west. This trough will bring in periods of rain to the region beginning around midnight and lingering, off and on, through the day Friday. The ridge that has been keeping us dry over the past several days will migrate east. The southwesterly flow around the west side of the ridge will bring in much warmer air. Highs on Thursday, ahead of the rain, will be in the low to middle 80s.

Friday will be significantly cooler than Thursday as the trough and rain arrive. The rain will be widespread but not steady. Off and on showers will define the day and the amount of rain will be in the one tenth to one quarter inch range by the time Friday evening rolls around.

Highs will only reach the upper 50s to low 60s as the trough with the pocket of cold air arrives.  It will be breezy to windy at times on Friday as the pattern changes.

The rain is expected to end in the late day time frame, but most of the rain will have fallen by early afternoon.

Friday night into Saturday morning will be cold with lows in the 20s in Southern Deschutes County and Sisters while low 30s are likely across the high desert.

Saturday will be chilly with highs in the low 60s under partly to mostly sunny skies. This cool pattern will linger through Sunday as overnight lows hover near the low 30s and highs only reach the low 60s.

Monday will see a slight warm up to the middle 60s then we return to the 70s on Tuesday.
