Breezy and cloudy today ahead of the rain expected overnight

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Chilly pattern is about to overtake the region as a cold pocket of air arrives from the Gulf of Alaska. Already seeing signs of the upcoming changing pattern as the low off the coast is getting better organized. The clouds are keeping the area from reaching the middle 80s today, but the brisk SW flow will be developing later this afternoon ahead of the rain so we still have a chance to spike near 80.

The rain is expected to arrive in Central Oregon after midnight and linger through the morning commute. The rain will be light and should be more prevalent across the Cascades. The timing of the precipitation is always a challenge to pinpoint exactly, but we are likely looking at some scattered showers most of the day across the high desert Friday.

A Wind Advisory has been issued for Wasco County and points north and east for Friday. Southwest winds will rush in at 20 mph with gusts near 40 at times.  The deep pocket of colder air will take over Oregon Saturday allowing for a shift in the wind flow, arriving from the west.

Temperatures are expected to only top out in the upper 50s to low 60s Friday with the colder air mass and the rain. The rain will come to an end late Friday, but the colder air will remain. In southern Deschutes County the morning low temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be in the 20s. Sisters will also experience the 20s this weekend, so it is time to start thinking about the chilly pattern as the prominent pattern.

Saturday is going to be a crisp and dry as the upper-level low takes over the Pacific Northwest. The highs over the weekend will be in the middle 60s under partly to mostly sunny skies.

Monday will begin a warming pattern, slightly as the mercury reaches the upper 60s. Moving forward through the first full week of Fall the highs will be in the low 70s under partly cloudy skies. Normal highs next week are the low 70s so we are going to be on point as far as temperatures go through at least next Thursday.
