La Pine captures first state 3A baseball crown

KTVZ

The La Pine Hawks captured the Oregon Class 3A baseball title Friday afternoon in a 10-5 victory over Horizon Christian, Tualatin at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.

It’s La Pine’s first baseball state title in school history.

After falling behind by two runs early on, the No. 4-seeded Hawks roared back. Senior catcher Wyatt DeForest scored a home run as La Pine finished the year with a 24-4 record, while Horizon Christian, Tualatin fell to 20-8.

La Pine went just 2-23 in 2014, its final year in Class 4A, but has grown every year since, with a quarterfinal appearance last year.
