Sisters Rodeo Xtreme Bull Riding ends in tie

KTVZ

In the six previous years of the Sisters Rodeo Xtreme bull riding, there has twice been a tie for the first go-round win, however in both 2014 and 2016 there was a clear-cut winner following the top ten final go-round. That was not the case this year for the Identity Zone-sponsored event held in conjunction with the 78 th Annual Sisters Rodeo.

Scoring 87.5 points in the first go-round, only one half point off the Xtreme Bulls arena record, Wyatt Covington from Omak, WA and Jordan Spears of Redding, CA qualified for the finals tied for the top spot. Covington, who finished sixth at last year’s Xtreme event rode first aboard the Corey and Lange Rodeo Company Wrangler National Finals bull Tequila, a bull that has only been ridden a couple of times. He lasted 6.58 of the required eight seconds. Spears, the defending Sisters Rodeo champion then climbed on WNFR bull Rewind from Corey and Lange, a bull that he had jpreviously been 88 points on at Puyallup, WA, however the bull won this time in 3.29 seconds.

Although several other finalists came close, none could make the required eight seconds to win the title outright. Riker Carter of Stone, ID aboard the Four Star Rodeo Company bull Yellow Fever only lacked .28 seconds which was a stellar effort aboard a bull that in 2016 was selected the best of all bull at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Thus Covington and Spears shared the title, the first tie in the seven years of the Sisters Xtreme Bull Riding. They will both be looking for redemption when the rodeo starts Friday night.
