Two OSP troopers injured while investigating assault
Two Oregon State Police troopers were assaulted and received minor injuries Sunday in an altercation involving the passenger in a car they had found that was connected to a reported assault, officials said.
Columbia County sheriff’s deputies responded Sunday morning to an assault call and later put out an “attempt to locate” bulletin on a black Toyota Camry, OSP Capt. Tim Fox said.
Around 9 a.m., troopers found a matching vehicle at a Scappoose gas station, Fox said.
The person of interest in the assault, Orin Graves, 43, of Warren, was in his car and later was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Clackamas County.
During the investigation, the rear passenger, Christopher Corwin, 30, of Lebanon, became combative and assaulted two troopers, Fox said. He had a statewide felony warrant out of Linn County, along with other warrants. Fox said other charges will include resisting arrest and assault on a pbulic safety officer.
Other nearby agencies responded to assist, as well as an off-duty Forest Grove police officer who witnessed the altercation, Fox said. Corwin was taken into custody, but Fox said he “had to be medically sedated because of believed drug use” before being taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The two troopers were taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland for treatment of minor injuries and later released.
