Deschutes County Jail gets 100 percent standards compliance
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday the results of its biennial Jail Standards inspection on April 10.
A team of professionals in corrections from around the state reviewed the jail’s policy and operations to ensure it is following legal requirements and sound correctional practices while operating the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail.
At the end of May, the department received notification from the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association that the Adult Jail is in full 100% compliance.
The inspectors were thorough in their review of the jail’s processes, the agency reported. Every aspect of the jail is reviewed, including maintenance records, general paperwork, medical records, mental health reports, logs and time-check records.
“The professionalism of our staff during this inspection period was overwhelming and the way they conduct themselves on a year round basis keeps our facility in compliance,” Sheriff Shane Nelson said.
“We are proud to serve our community and are dedicated to keeping the public’s trust. The Oregon Jail Standards evaluations are best practices in operating a correctional facility. Our teammates are well-trained and well-prepared. This is a tremendous accomplishment to our office and our citizens. I am proud to work with our great teammates at the Sheriff’s Office.”
This is the third biennial inspection in a row the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail has been 100% in compliance with Oregon Jail Standards.
