Bend seismic retrofit class Friday to help prep for quakes

Information and training sessions on seismic retrofits are scheduled for Baker City and Bend on Thursday and Friday of this week.

For building owners, building officials, home inspectors, design professionals, home builders, emergency planners, insurers and lenders: FEMA P-50 and FEMA P-50-1, Simplified Seismic Assessment and Retrofit Guidelines for Detached, Single-Family, Wood-Frame Dwellings

This course presents training on the FEMA P-50 and P-50-1 documents, addressing seismic assessment and retrofit of detached single-family wood-frame dwellings. These documents update and expand to national basis the simplified assessment methodology and retrofit guidelines originally developed for use in the City of Los Angeles following the Northridge earthquake (ATC-50 and ATC-50-1).

The Bend event will also offer a session for homeowners: Will your house stand up to the shaking during Cascadia? A panel of experts offers information on the impact of earthquakes, how to get a home retrofitted, and how to find a contractor who can do seismic retrofits.
