Registration deadlines for BPRD youth sports programs

Local youth are invited to participate in Bend Park and Recreation District’s sports programs this fall and registration deadlines are coming up between July 30 and Aug. 12. Register at www.bendparksandrec.org.

Youth Flag Football

The Youth Flag Football League registration deadline is July 30. The league is open to boys and girls entering 1 st through 6 th grade in the upcoming 2018-19 school year and runs from Sept. 4 through Nov. 4 .

Focusing on the fun and excitement of football, the league promotes physical fitness and teaches sportsmanship lessons about teamwork and fair play as well as basic football fundamentals and game play. Teams practice twice a week and play games on Sundays. The registration fee is $75 for in-district and $88 for out-of-district residents.

Kindergarten Soccer

The Kindergarten Soccer League registration deadline is Aug. 5. The league is open to boys and girls entering Kindergarten in the upcoming 2018-19 school year and runs from Sept. 8 through Oct. 13.

The league highlights soccer skill development, learning teamwork and sportsmanship. Teams meet on Saturdays for 50 minutes for practices and scrimmages. The registration fee is $48 for in-district and $58 for out-of-district residents.

6 th Grade Volleyball

The 6 th Grade Volleyball League registration deadline is Aug. 12. Teams are school-based and players must register for the school they attend – Cascade Middle School, High Desert Middle School, Pacific Crest Middle School, Pilot Butte Middle School or Sky View Middle School. La Pine and Three Rivers 6 th grade players should contact schools for middle school league participation.

Practices are held at schools in the evenings and matches are played on Tuesdays and/or Thursday evenings. The season runs from Sept. 10 through Oct. 25. The registration fee is $58 in-district and $70 for out-of-district residents.

Volunteer coaches needed

All youth sports leagues offer opportunities for adults as volunteer coaches. Providing support with program logistics, coaching and mentoring, volunteer coaches must complete a volunteer application and criminal history background check, as well as online concussion awareness training.
