Voter registration video features train-terror heroes

KTVZ

Tuesday, on National Voter Registration Day, Oregon Secretary of State Dennis Richardson has released a public service announcement video featuring internationally known heroes and celebrities Anthony Sadler and Spencer Stone, best known for stopping a terrorist attack on the 15:17 train to Paris in 2015.

“We’ve been called heroes for what we did that day, but what we really want to be known for is helping others when they need it,” Stone says in the video.

“And that’s something we can all do,” adds Sadler before encouraging Oregonians to register to vote and participate in the upcoming November General Election.

The video PSA is part of an ongoing, concerted effort by Secretary Richardson to expand voter access and drive citizen engagement.

“I have always believed that every Oregonian who is eligible to vote should have the opportunity to vote, and we are continually exploring new ways to increase participation,” said Richardson. “I’m so grateful to Anthony and Spencer and to everyone who took part in our voter PSA’s.”

Earlier this year, Olympic medalist and Dancing with the Stars winner Adam Rippon was also featured in a voter engagement PSA. More video PSA’s are planned for release in the coming weeks.

Additional efforts to drive voter engagement this November included a first of its kind pilot program utilizing Facebook to reach inactive voters, expanding online voter registration to include additional languages, and optimizing the Elections Division’s mobile My Vote site for phones, tablets, and other devices.

The deadline to register to vote in this election is October 16. Eligible voters are encouraged to register or update their registration through the Secretary of State website today.
