More night skiing on its way at Hoodoo

(Update: Adding interview with Hoodoo general manager)

Calling all night skiers! Hoodoo Ski Area near Santiam Pass announced Wednesday that it’s tripled the area available for night skiing and snowboarding.

Hoodoo General Manager Matthew McFarland said they’ve seen lots more people interested in night skiing.

“I think people are interested in night skiing in general, but nights are open when people are available. So after work, it’s really easy and quick to come ski for three or four hours,” McFarland said.

“Night skiing is generally more affordable than day skiing, so something can be affordable for a family and it’s easy to after school or after work,” he added.

Also, guests can now night ski one more day a week. Previously, the night skiing area had been open Fridays and Saturdays only. But starting in mid-December through late March, people can ski and ride Thursday through Saturday nights.

“A lot of people up their prices on season passes every year. We’ve opted to keep ours the same this year,” McFarland said.

” We feel as if it’s a good value and still a good way to get people in here skiing daily,” he added. ” Ski prices have gone up by a couple dollars every ticket. But the season pass is still the best value by far and is staying the same this year.”

The ski area expansion is the result of new, permanent lighting that’s been added to the runs surrounding Hoodoo’s Ed chairlift. The lights include custom-built LEDs for the best night skiing conditions, officials said.
