Redmond Proficiency Academy teacher honored
The Redmond Proficiency Academy announced Thursday that science teacher Amy Mitchell has been recognized with the Outstanding Classroom Teacher Award for Region 6 from the Oregon Science Teachers Association.
Each year, the OSTA Executive Board selects several individuals for statewide and regional awards. The OSTA Outstanding Classroom Teacher Award is given to teachers who motivate student achievement and excitement in science, community, and administrative support, show the ability to support and mentor new and pre-service teachers and provide overall contributions to the profession.
“I am so excited to be recognized as an Outstanding Classroom Teacher by the Oregon Science Teachers Association,” said Mitchell. “In 21 years of teaching, my goal has always been to inspire curiosity and confidence in my students. I’d like to thank the administrative team at RPA for their constant support and encouragement. I am also in awe of my fellow RPA teachers, one of whom is a past OSTA award recipient.”
This is Mitchell’s ninth year at RPA, where she teaches Biology, Astronomy, Freshmen Seminar, Oregon Battle of the Books and Tiny House Design.
Mitchell will be recognized at the annual OSTA Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 12, 2018, at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, in Newport. The celebration will recognize other excellent science teachers from throughout the state of Oregon.
