The group 100+ Women Who Care of Central Oregon has donated $22,300 to Community Shower Truck .

This is 100+WWCCO’s third quarter gift of 2018, bringing the total donations to area nonprofit organizations to nearly $400,000 since 2014.

The Bend-area nonprofit offers showers to homeless people or anyone in need. The self-contained shower truck with a generator offers a 450-gallon water tank with on-demand water heater, plus a waste water reservoir. The all-volunteer organization also distributes socks, underwear, toothbrushes and toothpaste, plus razors, shampoo, soap, and feminine hygiene products.

Tricia (who prefers her last name is no known due to privacy concerns), volunteer co-director, along with her husband Tom said, “By providing showers, we show people [particularly homeless] that we care and they are worthy of kindness. Everyone deserves that basic human need. The generous gift from 100+ Women Who Care prove that the services we provide matter to the community. We are blessed to be able serve in this way.”

The funds raised by more than 200 members of 100+ Women Who Care will be used to purchase a newer truck and then modify the vehicle to include shower stalls, flooring, tankless water heaters, fresh and grey water storage tanks, plumbing, and insulation. The truck will have two entrances allowing for men and women shower at the same time. [currently they must ask all men to vacate the truck while a woman takes a shower].

Lisa Connors, co-founder of the Central Oregon Chapter of 100+ said, “The Community Shower Truck offers such needed services to our homeless population. 100+ WWCO is proud to present this needed organization with our collective gift so they can provide additional showering facilities.”

The Family Kitchen, next to the Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Bend, hosts the shower truck Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., plus Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the truck is at the Redmond Church of God Seventh Day on corner of Birch and Fourth Street, from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m.
