Madras man stabbed several times in early-AM assault
A 21-year-old Madras man is recovering at St. Charles Bend after being stabbed several times during an assault early Sunday in downtown Madras, police said.
Detective Sgt. Steve Webb released initial details Sunday evening on the attack, and while no information was made public about any suspect or suspects, he said police had “determined there is not a current threat to public safety.”
A Madras officer stopped around 1:30 a.m. to assist a man found lying in the parking lot of the Madras Pub and Deli on Southwest Fifth Street, near “C” Street, Webb said.
Others also were trying to assist the man, who was flown to the Bend hospital and listed in good condition later in the day, Webb said.
Investigating officers determined the assault did not occur on the pub’s property but a short distance away. Webb said the alleged victim has been cooperating with investigators.
The detective said more information could be released in the next several days.
Anyone with information that could help police investigators is asked to contact Webb or Officer John Slyter through Frontier Dispatch at 541-475-2201.
