KTVZ

Happy Monday evening, everyone!

A HIGH WIND WARNING is in effect for most of the High Desert for strong wind gusts topping 45 to 55 miles per hour with sustained winds of 30 miles per hour overnight. The warning expires at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Secure any decorations outside and garbage cans as winds will be at their strongest overnight into Tuesday and Tuesday morning. Keep an eye on chairlift status’ if you plan on skiing of snowboarding Tuesday.

Rain showers are pushing into Central Oregon tonight. Showers should arrive for many around midnight tonight. The Cascades are seeing some snow already and will see more overnight. Snow levels this evening will be around 6,600′ for Central Oregon then rising to 7,200′ by tomorrow morning — this means snow will be left for the higher elevations. Overnight lows will be quite mild in the mid to upper 30s and lower 40s. Mt. Bachelor will see about 6″ of snow overnight.

Tuesday beings on a wet and windy note with gusts topping 50 miles per hour to begin the day. Showers will have arrived overnight, so we’ll begin the day with wind-driven rain. Your morning commute will be slower than normal, so allow yourself some extra time.

Showers become scattered once we get past the afternoon. Snow levels will fall throughout the day and end around 4,700′ for Central Oregon and 5,200′ for the Cascades. Daytime highs will be well above average once again in the mid to upper 40s and lower 50s.

Wednesday will see a break from the showers and partly cloudy skies are expected. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s again. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s and low to mid 30s.

Thursday we have another chance for rain showers. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

For our First Day of Winter on Friday we could see some mixed showers as cooler air moves in for the weekend. Highs will get closer to normal and top out in the upper 30s and lower 40s. As of now, snow showers could linger into Saturday.

Hang onto your hats!
