Deschutes County will observe National Crime Victims’ Rights Week during the week of April 7-13.

Each April since 1981, The United States Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime has helped lead communities in the annual observance of victims’ rights. During this week, communities across the country promote victims’ rights, honor crime victims and recognize those who advocate on their behalf.

“Deschutes County residents are privileged to live in a community with such strong support for victims of crime,” said District Attorney John Hummel. “Victim advocates, Deschutes County Juvenile Community Justice, Saving Grace, KIDS Center, CASA and many other service groups, agencies and organizations work tirelessly to advocate for victims of crime. On behalf of victims of crime I thank them for their service.”

The ceremony will kick off at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 12 th at the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office. Hummel will honor this year’s COROVA winners (Champions of Rights of Victims Award) and present them with their award.

Participants will then hear from the family member of a crime victim and the impact crime had on their lives. They will also hear from this year’s COROVA winners, who are: Senior Trooper Ratliff, Oregon State Police Detectives Division- Bend Branch, Rachel Kohl, Kristin Campbell and Emily Kotaich with KIDS Center.

This event is open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
