Damascus man charged with DUII in crash near Redmond
A Damascus man was arrested on a DUII charge late Saturday night after his pickup truck crashed into and flipped over concrete barriers at a 90-degree turn north of Redmond, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies responded around 11:25 p.m. to the reported crash on the O’Neil Highway at Northeast Fifth Street, sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Dizney said. They arrived to find the two people in a green 2004 Ford F-250 were getting out on their own.
Arriving deputies determined the driver, Jeffrey Lenhardt, 56, of Damascus, was heading east on the O’Neil Highway and failed to negotiate a 90-degree left-hand turn, Dizney said.
The pickup left the road and struck concrete barriers that line the highway, flipped over them and overturned, coming to rest on its passenger side, the sergeant said.
Lenhardt was accompanied by a 21-year-old male family member, also from Damascus, and both reported being unhurt in the crash.
Lenhardt was arrested on suspicion of DUII and taken to the county jail in Bend., where he was held for a time. A jail officer said he was released around 2 a.m. to a responsible third party.
Northeast Fifth Street was partially closed for more than an hour while a tow truck removed the pickup from the scene. The sheriff’s office also was assisted at the scene by Oregon State Police and ODOT.
