(Update: Missing women found safe after car got stuck in snow)
A missing Gresham woman and her visiting mother were found safe Monday morning after spending the night in their car, which got stuck in the snow near Mount Hood.
KGW reports their car, a 2018 Hyundai Ioniq, got stuck in the snow off Lolo Pass Road. Family members are traveling up to help dig them out.
Lauren Zanko, 27, and her mother, visiting from Tennessee, were planning to go on a hike in the Lost Lake Wilderness near Mount Hood.
Officials told KATU the women walked uphill to get cellphone reception and report their location.
Gresham police said Zanko’s fiance called police after they didn’t return Sunday. He told police he last heard from them just before 4 p.m., when they said they were headed on a hike.
The women were not prepared for an overnight trip.
Lost Lake is about a two-hour drive from Portland and features an easy day hike with stunning views of Mount Hood.
