Democratic governor in Kentucky pushes back against GOP opponent’s criticism on crime issues

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear says he’s been steadfast in leaning into the fight against crime. The governor hit back against his Republican challenger’s attacks on public safety issues. Beshear made the comments Tuesday while joined by law enforcement officers backing his reelection campaign, Cameron says Beshear “bears all of the responsibility” for what the Republican claims are rising crime rates. Beshear laid out his record on criminal-justice issues Tuedsay. As governor, he says he pushed for pay raises for state police troopers and increased training for police. As attorney general, he prosecuted child sex offenders and cleared a rape kit backlog,
