Chance of rain and snow possible in higher elevations tonight

A fine Tuesday to you, Central Oregon! There's a strong chance of precipitation possibly starting as early as 2 but mainly expected after about 5pm and continuing through the midweek.

Currently, a low pressure system from the NW has traveled down into our area bringing arctic air to the region through most of this work week. There's also a cold front leading the system which will result in a wave of mixed precipitation and our higher elevation peaks likely receiving their first meaningful snowfall of the season later tonight into Wednesday.

This is a bit early for season's first snowfall and the ground isn't frozen yet so the predicted snowfall amounts may be a bit higher than what we see but generally this weather will impact travel on major mountain passes.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of Deschutes and Jefferson Counties and lasts until 5 pm Wednesday. 2 - 6" of snow may accumulate in areas above 3500 feet. Higher elevations, above 4500 may see over 6 - 12".

Winds will be light and variable gusting in the range of about 5 to 15 mph by late morning primarily to the east.

Highs today will be in the 50s and lows tonight will be in the 20s and 30s. Expect chilly overnight lows all week long! Stay warm out there!
