Dry and mild into the weekend, rain and mountain snow Saturday night

The large lumbering low off the coast of California is moving slowly toward the region, but will do battle against a ridge of high pressure overhead.

The high over the region will be the dominant weather feature for the High Desert resulting is mostly sunny skies (apart from some smoke) and warmer than normal temperature readings. Highs on Friday will be in the upper 50s and once again on Saturday.

Saturday the high will have shifted to the east and that opens the door for a cold front to arrive from the west. This front will bring heavy rain to the coastal mountains during the day and then migrate east to the Cascades.

Late Saturday rain will fall over the Cascades with a snow level of around 6500 feet at the onset in the evening. The snow level will dip to the 3500-foot range overnight allowing for a few inches of snow to accumulate.

The lower elevations on the east slopes may see a bit of a wintry mix near dawn Sunday, but that should taper off quickly with little to now accumulation.

Winds will be blustery overnight Saturday into Sunday through the Cascades, and linger in the breezy range Sunday in the High Desert.

The short work week will be defined by cool and dry weather conditions, with a slight chance for some light rain early Thanksgiving morning.
