Snowy and bitter cold today, dangerous wind chill values

The day will be defined by snow and cold conditions. There will be several inches of snow on the mountains and inches of snow over the high desert. The snow today is expected to be widespread and will taper off by the evening.

Travel will be greatly impacted by the weather conditions as some of the snow may cover areas of packed snow and ice. Winds will be in the 10 – 12 mph range and may blow the snow around, reducing visibility. It will be very cold today as well so the snow will be on the “fluffy” side and easily blown around.

Speaking of the cold, an Arctic Blast of air moved over the region overnight and has settled in for the next few days. Temperatures will struggle to get over the 10-to-15 degree mark this afternoon, so if you do have to go out, make sure to cover as much of your skin as possible.

Snow ends tonight but the cold air stays. Lows will be near zero in most locations.

Sunday will be dry and cold. The snow will be drifting in the usual locations and travel will be troublesome. High temperatures Sunday will be in the low 20s after starting near zero. Snow may still blow around, reducing visibility.

Lows overnight Sunday into Monday will be in the single digits. We do stay cold on Monday, only reaching the low 20s under mostly sunny skies. Back to the 30s on Tuesday and the 40s on Wednesday.
