Mix of snow and freezing rain as temps rise overnight

Temperatures have been below freezing since 2:15 pm Friday, that is about to change. Tonight, there will be a surge of warmer air arriving from the southwest that will get us above freezing once again. The issue is that there will be precipitation associated with the warm up, and nailing down the type is going to be a challenge.

Another odd weather phenomenon tonight will be the warming pattern. Usually the air cools each night with the loss of solar energy, but as a surge of warm air arrives after sunset, we will actually be warming moving forward into the night verses cooling. Not unheard of for sure, but something I wanted to point out.

A Winter Weather Advisory for tonight and tomorrow for the chance for some light snow and an icy glaze in some locations. Check the red banner above for updates, upgrades or changes.

Expect to see mostly snow above 5000 feet then it gets a bit tricky below that number. A slight chance for some freezing rain, rain that freezes on contact with a colder surface, along with some cold rain.  Fat flakes may mingle in with the rain as well. A wintry mix is the best way to describe the precipitation for the next few days.

Winds will pick up tomorrow as well as gusts may reach 20 to 25 mph across the desert. Higher speeds across the peaks of the Cascades.

Wednesday will be the first above freezing day and we will be looking at mountain mix and high desert rain. Slushy roads will possibly freeze again overnight making for a rough commute Thursday morning. The pattern changes little Thursday as the mix of rain and snow continues off and on.

Dry and crisp Friday and Saturday with some passing flurries overnight and again off and on Sunday and Monday.

Monitor the Red Banner at the top of the page for updates to warnings, watches, and advisories as they change periodically through the day.
