Periods of light rain, snow and freezing drizzle over the weekend

There will be wave after wave of light rain, mountain snow, and the chance for some freezing drizzle in the region for several days. The pattern is defined by a persistent flow in the upper levels of the atmosphere that have weak disturbances spaced out by about 12 or 24 hours.

What that means is that we will be dealing with possible precipitation for the next week or so, each day. There is no major event expected in the region. No bitter cold, no big snow event, not any major ice event over the next several days, in fact, not much change or variation of any kind in the forecast package.

The temperatures each day will hover around the middle 40s and dip to the low 30s overnight. The waves of light rain and snow showers will cross the region Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Generally, there will be little to no accumulation of snow early in the day or overnight when temperatures allow, and only a brief period of rain during the daytime hours as temps will be in the 40s. There will, however, be some light freezing rain or drizzle at times that may ice up some roads and elevated objects. Freezing fog is also possible in the lower elevations as the cold air is still trapped in those locations.

This pattern is expected to linger until at least the end of next week.

Mountain resorts will see some snow each of the next several days.
