Wintry mix to start the day Wednesday, rain by noon

The overall warmer pattern has allowed the snow and ice to melt and seep into the soil. Muddy fields and wet roads are the result.  Tonight, the air cools below freezing so we may see some patchy black ice in the area as the wet road may re-freeze.

Another round of precipitation arrives after midnight and I expect this to begin as snow and a mix of rain and possibly some sleet and freezing rain in some locations.  This wintry mix will be present most of the morning so prepare yourself for some wet and icy travel for your morning commute.

The mix will transition to rain by around mid-morning and the area will be once again dealing with some minor flooding on area roads. The rain will taper off as the day moves along but be followed by a chilly air mass overnight.

This once again presents the chance for some black ice on bridges and overpasses. Hills also present a problem with respect to black ice as the streams of water often cross the curves in the mountain roads and black ice is possible on the colder hills.

A break in the wet pattern on Thursday will be followed by a steady rain event on Friday and Saturday. The warmer air will lift the snow levels to around 7000 feet by Saturday. That is not great news for the resorts.

Possible flooding may occur as the creeks and streams have the potential to be running fast and full due to the steady rain and the snow-melt.

Drying and mild conditions are likely to begin Sunday and linger through at least the middle of next week.
