Former Peruvian intelligence chief gets 19 years in prison for 1992 massacre of farmers
LIMA, Peru (AP) — Vladimiro Montesinos, the controversial intelligence chief of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, has been sentenced to 19 years and eight months in prison for the 1992 massacre of six farmers in the town of Pativilca. Montesinos earlier this week pleaded guilty to charges of homicide, murder and forced disappearance in the case of the six farmers, who were accused of being members of a rebel group, taken from their homes by soldiers and executed. Although Montesinos, a former military man and former drug trafficker’s lawyer, pleaded guilty to the charges, Fujimori didn’t do so, and a trial will continue in his case.
