Presidents Day weekend brings loved ones together, many to spend the day enjoying downtown Bend
(Update: Adding video, comments from visitors)
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- It's Presidents Day weekend, and many people had the day off. The holiday weekend brought out many people from around the West Coast to Bend. I spoke with visitors from Portland, Seattle and California, and got to learn how they spent their time.
The latest snow didn't keep people from visiting downtown Bend to relax and spend time with their loved ones.
Abigail Lathorp and Kyla Mark were visiting from Portland, along with a group of friends.
Mark said, "We came out because her friend owns a house up here, and so 10 of us came out to just hang out with each other for the whole weekend -- in the snow, which we did not expect!"
"Yeah, we were not expecting snow," Lathorp said
As for the Robinson family, they decided to switch up their weather from California to visit Bend.
Krista Robinson said, "Today we're just walking around the town and checking out the shops and restaurants. The rest of the weekend, we went to Mt. Bachelor."
For Bend resident Jacob Walters, he had a busy day ahead.Â
"Actually, do have work today," he said. "So I'm actually just walking to a coffee shop to go work. But this whole weekend, we went skiing Friday, Saturday, Sunday -- epic days, lots of road traffic, lots of issues on the road with all the ice. But it was still amazing days on the mountain."
Another family decided to venture down from Sherwood.
Kacey Nappi said, "We've just been here since yesterday. We've been doing a lot of, like, just like looking around shops. And it's been really fun."
Her mother, Laura Nappi, said, "On on the way back, we're going to go sledding in the Santiam Pass."
Aliya Murphy was visiting from Seattle to spend time with her loved ones.
"Just visiting family," she said. "We came down on Thursday to visit family, and we've just been -- we went skiing yesterday. Then we're just visiting some shops in town today."
