Wintry pattern returns, periods of snow this week
Although the bulk of the heavy snow will fall on the mountains, the High Desert will see a few inches as well. The snowfall will be off and on as the week moves along and the roads will be slick for both the morning and evening commutes.
As the mountains receive several inches of new snow, the amount forecast for the cities along highway 97 and 126 will be only getting a couple of inches. The type of precipitation is going to vary as well at lower elevations, as the temperature profile will hover near the freezing mark overnight and into the 40s and 50s each afternoon. The forecast challenge will be centered around the timing of the precipitation, which will determine the precip type. Overnight, a bit of a mix, in the afternoon mostly rainy.
This pattern of persistent precipitation is expected to last all week, but the amount of snow that is slated to pile up will be about an inch or two each day. The snow will also melt quickly as well, so not much will linger. Wet roads overnight may ice up at higher locations where the temps fall below freezing, but generally the bitter cold overnight temps will hold off until late in the week, when only some flurries are expected.
Snow riders will be getting new snow each of the next several days.
