Wintry mix early becoming mostly snow showers by later
Happy Thursday Central Oregon. Similar to yesterday, we expect a mix of rain and snow on the High Desert as a cold front passes over the Cascades bringing more snow to the mountains and continued precipitation. Due to the expected mixed precip this morning, snow may begin falling on wet roads as temps begin to drop which can cause slippery conditions.
Morning rain showers will likely be turning to a chance for a mix of rain and snow and eventually snow showers by late today and overnight. Mild temperatures will be with us until the passage of the cold front and as such timing will determine the type of precipitation we see. Temperatures will be cooling into the weekend.
A Wind Advisory is in place in Central Oregon until 7am this morning due to Southwest winds in the 25-35 mph range. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
A Winter Storm Warning in the East Slopes of the Cascades including La Pine and Sunriver in place until 4am Friday due to heavy snow above 4000 ft. Accumulations of 12-24 inches are possible and wind gusts as high as 60mph. 3-6” possible in the lower elevations and up to 20” in the Santiam Pass.
Winds out of the Southwest today in the 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph in some areas. Highs will be in the 30s and 40s and overnight lows in the 20s.
