Snow showers continue tonight tapering off Tuesday afternoon

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for our region until 10 am Tuesday. Most of the snow will fall overnight and taper off from north to south during the morning.

The persistent pattern of snow and colder than normal conditions will continue tonight and early Tuesday. The pattern of snow that has been in the forecast for the past several days will finally clear the region. A large area of low pressure that has been meandering in the Southern Gulf of Alaska for the past week is now moving east. This will allow a dry and chilly air mas to arrive in Oregon.

The dry pattern is slated to overtake the snowy pattern Tuesday afternoon and be in place the rest of the work week. The temperatures will still be on the “below normal” side, but the chance for snow is being eliminated from the forecast.

Do not let your guard down just yet, tonight will still potentially bring another round of snow to the region. The southern portion of the state will see several inches of new snow, and that may translate as far north as Sunriver and La Pine.  The morning commute will be impacted by the snow most locations as Bend and Redmond may see some snow as well. Amounts for south of Lava Butte are in the 3 – 5” range, while the amounts for Bend, Redmond and Prineville are closer to 1 – 2”.  Mountain locations are still looking at nearly a foot of new snow in some spots.

Travel through mountain passes is still a challenge and tonight will be no different.

Wednesday through Friday will see afternoon highs in the 40s and overnight lows in the 20s.
