Snow tapers off but the chilly air remains in place, dry pattern develops
The roads in the region are very dangerous as the snow has piled up to around 5” in some locations around Bend, and over 10” in Southern Deschutes County including La Pine. The snow totals are lower in Jefferson County and increase as you move south. The shield of snow that crossed the region is slowly migrating south bringing an end to the snowy scenario.
The next few days will be dry and chilly, with a gradual rise in temperatures as we head toward the weekend. Highs on Wednesday will still be about 10 degrees below our normal highs (around 50), topping out in the upper 30s and low 40s, so the wintry feel to the region remains.
There will be an area of high pressure over the Pacific Northwest for a while and that will keep the skies relatively cloud free and the allow the sun to be the dominant weather feature in the sky for a change.
Heading into the weekend there will be more wet weather, but this time the temperatures at lower elevations along highway 97 will be mild enough to support mainly rain. The Cascades will see some snow, but generally the snow levels will be above 5000 feet during the day. Rain may mingle with some snow or sleet overnight, but the overall thought is for rain at lower elevations.
The precipitation is expected to be more showery than stormy.
