Heavy mountain snow today, wintry mix over the high desert

After three days with mostly sunny skies and light winds we will be changing the pattern. Snow is likely to overtake the mountains early today and will linger through the next several days. Snowfall totals along the crest of the Cascades are going to be in the 1 – 2 foot range by Monday morning. 

At lower elevations, the region will see significantly less snow, and a mix of rain and snow is still possible, but not nearly as much snow as what is being forecast for the Cascades.  

Winds will pick up as we move through the weekend, but once again, mainly across the mountains. The winds will be clocked at 40 plus miles per hour at times, and will blow around the snow, reducing visibility. 

Sunday will be similar to Saturday as mountain snow piles up and the winds will be robust. High desert precipitation will be mainly early in the day and probably more of a mix. After noon, the region will be partly to mostly cloudy. 

Temperatures top out in the upper 40s along the 97 highway both Saturday and Sunday.
