Sunny and dry today as temps continue to climb

Mostly sunny skies today will allow the mercury in the thermometer to rise into the 60s most locations. There may even be a few 70° readings in Jefferson County this afternoon as high pressure dominates the area.  The lack of wind and sinking air under the high will be a couple of reasons for the warmer than normal conditions.  

This is also the last weekend of Winter 2023-24 as Tuesday is the Vernal Equinox.  The Vernal Equinox marks the transition from Winter to Spring as the direct rays of the Sun will cross the Equator, giving us equal parts daylight and darkness.  This occurs at 8:06 PM Tuesday and begins our pattern of longer days and shorter nights until we reach the Summer Solstice in June. 

Normal highs for the middle of March are around the low 50s for Bend and Redmond, but this weekend I expect low to middle 60s. 

There is a small chance for the temperature readings to be above 70 on Monday and Tuesday as we continue our warming trend. Don’t get too used to the 70s as the mercury will only reach the low 50s by Thursday and some light rain and mountain snow are on the docket.  

Enjoy the early taste of mid-Spring this weekend, as we hit the mid-60s on St. Patrick’s Day.
