Transgender athlete receives boos from the crowd after winning girls 200M state title
At the 6A track and field state championships, Aayden Gallagher, who was born a male and now identifies as female, was met by boos and some applause. The sophomore beat the second-place finisher by .20. OSAA allows for athletes to compete as a boy or girl, based on their gender identity. Earlier in the season, Republican state lawmakers reacted to Gallagher competing by writing to the OSAA, requesting a change in rules. The OSAA says it abides by current state law.
