Madras election gathering sees a win for Jefferson County Fire & EMS levy

MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Dozens of Central Oregon Republicans gathered in Madras Tuesday night to watch the results of Oregon's primary. 

About 80 people turned out at New Basin Distillery.

The race for Jefferson County commissioner was top of mind. With none of the seven candidates getting 50% of the vote, Brandi McNamee and Seth Taylor will likely face off in the fall.

Jefferson County Fire & EMS Chief Jeff Blake was grateful the $14 million money measure is passing.

The bond measure will allow for expanding and upgrading the fire stations and purchase of new equipment.

“We're a growing community. We have a lot of extra calls now, and we have not done a bond since in 25 years,” Blake said.

Also, the upcoming presidential race was a topic of discussion. 

Jefferson County Commission candidate George Curtiss said, "I like Donald J. Trump. I think he'll get our economy going and get us back on track, get some interest rates down.”
