Warming pattern begins, hot by Friday, isolated storms this weekend

A major warm up is underway in Central Oregon and we should top out in the low 90s Friday.  The winds have relaxed, the sunshine is abundant and the warmer air is here.  Expect to see temperatures in the low 80s today, the middle 80s on Thursday and we should hit 90 on Friday.

The early season warm up is due to a large ridge of high pressure over the western part of the country. There are numerous heat alerts for the Southwestern United States through at least Friday as temperature readings in Central and Southern California may hit triple digits.

Oregon and the Pacific Northwest will be in the low 90s, so little to fear from an advisory in our Tri-Counties.  The NWS may issue an advisory for portions of the high desert as some locations may hit the middle 90s in the east. Generally the criteria for an advisory is temps near 100, but since it is early in the season, the Weather Service may issue an advisory to allow folks to start thinking about the heat.

Another issue to deal with may be the slight chance for an isolated thunderstorm in the region Saturday. The heat and moisture in the area may allow for a few “pop-up” storms to develop in the heat of the day.  Not unprecedented when we have this much heat following a wet period.

Sunday will still be very warm as temps hit the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies.  The temperatures into the middle of next week continue to spike in the middle 80s. 

Remember to stay hydrated in the heat, and never leave kids or pets in your car. Never.
