Central Oregon Strong: “Toys for Hope” Drive for Silver Rail Students

KTVZ

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A toy collection drive for Silver Rail called “Toys for Hope” is underway across Central Oregon.

Their goal is to provide therapeutic toys for Silver Rail elementary students. The effort is sanctioned by the school district and coordinated by local businesses.

Organized by Amber McDermott, the initiative asks for brand-new sensory and activity-based toys designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.

McDermott said many local companies signed on to participate, turning a modest concept into a major effort to support area students. "We had so many businesses that wanted to participate." Said McDermott, "So the outpour was just outrageous. The community wanted to be part of this. So it started as a very small idea, ended up very large, to make sure that these kids were taken care of."

The drive will run till next Friday. Collection bins have been set up at numerous commercial establishments throughout the area.

Here is the full list at this time:

First Interstate Bank in Sunriver has said they're matching donations. Fred Meyer and Walmart in Bend and Redmond will also be making a donation.

More donation sites may open as time goes on. Exclusive Imports Auto Repair in La Pine is maintaining a master list of donation sites on their Facebook page.
