Rally for reproductive rights held at Peace Corner in downtown Bend
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- It's been two years since Roe versus Wade was overturned. On Sunday, there was a rally to commemorate the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.
Dozens of people came together at the corner of Wall and Greenwood, also known as Peace Corner in downtown Bend. It was for a rally for reproductive rights.
"We want to just affirm women's rights to have health care without an agenda, just health care between a woman and her doctor," Gayle Stamler, Vocal Seniority and The Resistas member. "Not the government."
The rally included members from the Vocal Seniority, The Resistas, and Indivisible Sisters.
Bend's mayor Melanie Kebler and Oregon State Representative Emerson Levy gave speeches.
Kebler said, "You cannot ban abortion. You can only ban safe abortion. And you cannot you cannot expect women to not be able to meet their needs and they're going to travel to do it. They shouldn't have to do that."
Levy said, "It is anti-family to be against IVF, and we are pro-family and pro-choice. I'm so proud to be an Oregonian."
The goal of the rally was to support women's rights, and to educate people ahead of the November 2024 election.
