Pope’s top adviser, women who say they were abused by ex-Jesuit artist ask for mosaics to be removed

ROME (AP) — The pope’s top adviser on fighting sex abuse is urging Vatican offices to stop displaying artwork by an ex-Jesuit artist. A letter from Cardinal Sean O’Malley to Vatican offices was issued on the same day that five women who say they were psychologically, spiritually and sexually abused by the priest urged Catholic bishops around the world to remove his mosaics from their churches. The two-pronged developments advance the debate in the church about what to do with the artworks of the Rev. Marko Rupnik, whose mosaics decorate some of the Catholic Church’s most-visited sanctuaries and shrines.
