CROOKED RIVER RANCH, Ore. (KTVZ) – The owners of a Crooked River Ranch home awakened late Saturday night to the sound of an explosion and found a wall of flames in another room from a fire that tore through their home, causing $530,000 in damage and losses, officials said.

Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue responded to the fire reported shortly before midnight in the 16000 block of Southwest Sage Hen Road. So did crews from Redmond, Cloverdale and Jefferson County Fire & EMS, CRR Fire Paramedic and Public Information Officer Grant Caudel said.

The fire initially was reported by a neighbor who heard the explosion and called 911, Caudel said.

Firefighters arrived to find the home ablaze, with flames coming from the rear and through the front door, but all residents evacuated.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the main portion of the house, Caudel said, saving the family’s attached garage and shop, including a family vehicle.

There are no fire hydrants in the area, so firefighters relied on water tenders to shuttle water to the firefighting effort.

No injuries were reported, Caudel said, and after investigation, the cause of the fire was undetermined.

The American Red Cross was contacted to provide disaster assistance to the family, due to fire and smoke damage throughout the home. The Jefferson County and Deschutes County sheriff’s offices also provided assistance.

“Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue would like to remind everyone to ensure your important personal items are stored in a readily accessible area, in the event of an emergency,” Caudel said.
