Record heat wave expected over the holiday weekend

The Fourth will be the beginning of the 90s as high pressure in the Eastern Pacific continues to build. The larger/higher the dome is the hotter the air is underneath.  Air sinks underneath the high-pressure ridge and as it sinks, it compresses. As the air molecules compress, the mash together and generate friction and heat is generated.  The longer this goes on, the harder it is to break down.

Friday we hit the century mark in a lot of locations, currently we are under a Heat Advisory for portions of Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties beginning Friday and continuing until Tuesday.  An Excessive Heat Warning is in place for portions of Wasco County and points north and east from Friday until Tuesday as well.

Prepare for the heat and the high fire danger.  The longer this continues, the harder it is to deal with.  Some good news is that the overnight temps will be in the 60s, so we can recover slightly at night.

Be very careful with your fireworks this weekend, wildfire danger will become extreme in the dry and hot weather.

We often see highs over the century mark, but this will be an extended period of around ten days with highs above 90.

Watch and monitor the banner at the top of the page for warnings and advisories that will be changing periodically over the next several days.
